Situated in the south of the Region of Valencia, the city of Alicante is in the
centre of the bay of the same name, and is flanked by the headlands Cabo de Las
Huertas in the north and Santa Pola in the south. With a population of around 315,000,
and a municipal area covering 201.3 km2, Alicante is the second-largest city in
the Region of Valencia and the capital of the province of the same name. The city
is centred around industry, business and the service sector.
A city bathed by the Mediterranean sea, Alicante has an excellent climate with mild
winters and warm summers, an average annual temperature of 18°C and round 3,000
hours of sunshine a year.
